These Business Terms apply to businesses and organizations that use CoatCheck to run coat check, sell Event Tickets, collect payments, send transactional SMS, or operate staff and kiosk tools. They apply in addition to our general Terms of Service. If you use any of those features, you agree to these Business Terms.
"Business Account" means the CoatCheck account for your organization.
"Organizer" means the Business that creates an event or venue offering.
"Event Ticket" means an admission ticket sold on a public CoatCheck event page.
"Coat Ticket" means a claim ticket for a physical item at a venue.
"Customer" or "Buyer" means a person who pays through your Business Account or receives a ticket you issue.
"Destination charge" means a payment taken on CoatCheck's Stripe account, with the ticket list price transferred to your connected Stripe account.
"Direct charge" means a payment taken on your connected Stripe account, with a CoatCheck application fee.
CoatCheck uses Stripe Connect. The charge path depends on the product:
For Event Tickets and Coat Tickets, CoatCheck collects the Buyer's payment on its platform account before transferring your list price. Stripe, not CoatCheck, holds bank payout balances and pays out to your bank.
By connecting Stripe to CoatCheck, you authorize us to create and manage charges; access connected-account information needed for processing and reporting; transfer Event Ticket and Coat Ticket list prices to you; and retrieve transaction history.
You must keep a valid Stripe Connect account and accurate identity, tax, and bank information. Payment features may only be available in countries we list in the product.
You also agree to Stripe's Connected Account Agreement and Stripe's Terms of Service. Stripe processes card payments. CoatCheck chooses the charge path, fee split, and tax collection described in these Business Terms. If Stripe suspends your account, we may suspend payment features on CoatCheck.
Stripe settles funds on its schedule. Stripe typically pays out to your bank within 2–3 business days, though this varies. You can configure payout timing in Stripe. Stripe may place holds or reserves. CoatCheck does not control those decisions.
Event Ticket and Coat Ticket payouts are the list price only (or list price minus the service fee when you absorb coat fees). They do not include the guest service fee or sales tax collected on the platform.
Card disputes are handled by Stripe and the card networks. You must respond on time and provide evidence. Chargeback fees may be deducted from your account.
For Event Tickets (destination charges), dispute exposure may sit with the platform. We may recover dispute amounts, fees, and related losses from your CoatCheck or Stripe balance, future payouts, or by invoice. For direct coat charges, Stripe typically assesses the dispute on your connected account.
Event Tickets: where Stripe Tax is active and we have a registration that covers the event venue, CoatCheck calculates and collects sales tax from the Buyer and remits it where we are registered. You do not receive that tax. You remain responsible for reporting ticket revenue as income and for any income, VAT, or other taxes on your own business.
If tax settings are not active, the venue is incomplete, or we have no registration for that place, checkout may collect $0 sales tax. That does not transfer sales-tax responsibility to CoatCheck for other activity, and it does not make us your tax advisor.
Coat Tickets: where Stripe Tax is active and we have a registration that covers the business location on your payment account, CoatCheck calculates and collects sales tax from the Buyer and remits it where we are registered. You do not receive that tax. You remain responsible for income tax and any other taxes on your own business.
Stripe may issue 1099-K or similar forms to your connected account when thresholds apply. You must provide accurate tax information to Stripe.
You set and must show a refund policy for each event (including no refunds, requests with manual approval, or auto-approve before a stated number of days). Buyers may request refunds in the product when your policy allows. CoatCheck may process those refunds through Stripe.
Event Ticket refunds are issued on the platform payment. We refund the Buyer first, then recover the list-price transfer and any fee as the product is built to do. A refund may void the related tickets. Refunded inventory is not always restocked.
If we cannot issue tickets after payment (for example an oversell), we will refund the Buyer the amount paid for those tickets, including tax and service fee where collected, and recover the corresponding transfer from you.
You are responsible for cancelled or postponed events. We may help process refunds. We are not required to fund refunds if your Stripe balance or our recovery path cannot cover them. Stripe may charge refund fees.
You are responsible for the accuracy of event listings, venue details, prices, capacity, and refund policies; for holding the event as described; and for admission and safety at the venue. CoatCheck does not produce the event.
If we suspend your Business Account after tickets have been sold, already-issued valid tickets remain the Buyer's claim against you. We may continue to process refunds or keep historical records. We are not required to host the event or admit guests.
CoatCheck does not take possession of coats or other items. You are the party storing the item. You are solely responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or misdelivered property, and for your staff and kiosks. Coat tickets are software claim identifiers, not insurance and not a deposit with CoatCheck.
You are responsible for every person and device that can issue, view, or redeem tickets for your Business. Keep staff logins and kiosks secured. Activity on those logins and devices is yours.
You shall not:
CoatCheck does not store payment card numbers. Card data is processed by Stripe under PCI DSS. You must protect customer data you collect, follow applicable privacy law, and have a privacy policy for your customers where required.
You are responsible for the security of your logins, staff access, kiosks, and Stripe account.
SMS on CoatCheck is for transactional and operational messages only (login codes, ticket numbers, pickup notices, shareable ticket links). You agree that:
You are responsible for fines or claims from your SMS use. International SMS may incur the fees described in the general Terms and in SMS pricing.
Besides Stripe, we use Twilio (SMS), Amazon Web Services (hosting, files, email), Firebase (sign-in and push), Ably (realtime), PostHog, Plausible, and Sentry (analytics and errors), Mapbox (maps), and the other providers listed in our Privacy Policy. Each receives only the data needed for its role. Some flows use more than one provider (for example a Stripe payment followed by an email or SMS).
We do not guarantee uninterrupted service and are not liable for business losses from downtime. You should have a backup plan for door and coat-check operations.
If a disruption is outside our reasonable control, we may offer a service credit or pricing offset at our discretion. That is not an SLA and not a guaranteed remedy.
We may suspend or terminate payment features or the Business Account if you breach these Business Terms or the general Terms, violate Stripe's rules, engage in fraud or high-risk activity, lose your Stripe account, or pose a risk to CoatCheck or other users.
If we receive multiple reports of fraud, phishing, unauthorized charges, or similar activity, we may suspend or terminate immediately without prior notice. Grounds include AML/KYC failures and illegal use.
After termination you will not be able to process new payments. We may keep historical transaction data. Already-sold Event Tickets remain your obligation to the Buyer as described above.
CoatCheck is not responsible for Stripe delays or failures; chargebacks or fraud claims; your Stripe account being suspended; lost or damaged physical items; events you cancel or fail to deliver; or losses from staff or kiosk misuse.
The liability cap and exclusions in the general Terms of Service apply to these Business Terms as well.
We may change these Business Terms. We will update the date at the top and notify you of material changes by email or through the Business Account. Continued use of business features after that is acceptance.
